Employment of Youth
In the last 12 months we have employed about 40 previously unemployed youth in the business, providing them with permanent employment and growth opportunities. This was largely due to the partnership with Harambee, a Youth employment accelerator program.
As a business we continue to focus on the employment of the youth as we believe it is a critical step to addressing the key challenges that have already been mentioned.
We are in the process of finalizing an internship program where we will be supplied with qualified students by the Buffalo City College to develop practical skills for the young individuals over the next 18 months. These students will be taken through the extent of our business to understand the entire operation and how it works. This will ensure that by the time they complete the internship, they are competitive enough take on any role they wish to apply for.
As part of the Hollard Branch offering, there are Consumer Education sessions held every month across the Eastern Cape focusing on developing the financial literacy and financial education of existing customers as well as prospective customer. This is a critical step in improving the levels of financial inclusion especially in a segment of the market that has low incomes and is most vulnerable.
We have more initiatives in the pipeline which will further drive our goals of playing a role in developing this province.

An exciting programme in the business is the development of a Sales Academy which will help to develop experienced and inexperienced candidates to gain valuable sales and marketing skills to excel in their jobs. We are looking to start this programme by 1 November.
This programme will be at no cost to the candidates, the candidates only need to meet our criteria which will be determined by an online assessment and an interview. Through this programme, we aim to train and employ about 500 people in the next 12 months, candidates will be placed in any of the existing and up coming SB Group campaigns.
